NATIONAL NIGHT OUT:  Volunteers are always welcome!

National Night Out 2011 will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011.  We are again encouraging everyone to hold block parties on Monday, August 1, 2011.  Please contact the Borough Office to complete a registration form so that we will know where the parties will be held.  As in the past, the Mayor, Council members, Borough employees, and members of the Police Department and Fire Department will visit each block party.  This year we ask residents to light up their homes on Monday and Tuesday evenings for the “Best Lit House” contest.  The homes will be judged on Monday evening and the prize awarded on Tuesday evening at National Night Out.  We ask that you complete a registration form for this contest and submit it no later than Friday, July 29, 2011.

The theme for the poster and essay contests for 2011 is “Blow a Whistle on Crime”. The poster contest is open to children ages 15 and under and must be submitted to the Moscow Borough Office by July 29, 2011.  The essay contest is open to children between the ages of 10 and 18 and must also be submitted to the Moscow Borough Office by July 29, 2011.  Each essay should be between 50 and 300 words.  All entries for both contests must include the following information on the BACK of the submission: name, address, phone number, and age of participant.  We would ask that you encourage your children to participate in both of these activities.  Prizes will be awarded for both contests on the evening of National Night Out.

A copy of the National Night Out program for 2011 is enclosed. Please note that all the activities that are scheduled for the afternoon and evening will take place at Centennial Park across from the Borough Building and at open houses at local businesses.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your children to meet other residents of the Borough and to see what the local businesses have to offer.

This is Moscow Borough’s eighth year participating in National Night Out and for the past seven years we have won awards in the category “population under 15,000”. We are very proud of this fact and wish to thank everyone who helps us to plan this event to make it so successful.
