NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2008 National Night Out is a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch that is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participate in local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Moscow Borough began participating in this national event in the year 2004, receiving a “Rookie of the Year” award for the category “population 15,000 and under” from hundreds of submissions from municipalities all over the country to the National Association of Town Watch. Moscow Borough placed 38th in 2005, 27th in 2006, and 14th in 2007. We are very proud of this accomplishment and hope to continue to do better each year. Moscow Borough will be participating in its Fifth Annual National Night Out on Monday, August 4, 2008 with block parties throughout the Borough, and on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 beginning with activities for children from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Centennial Park on VanBrunt Street. A kickoff for the evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Moscow Borough Building with events for children and adults being held throughout the town at many of the local businesses. The evening will close with music and refreshments at Centennial Park from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The theme for the poster and essay contests for 2008 is “Be a Superhero in Your Neighborhood”. The poster contest is open to children ages 15 and under and must be submitted to the Moscow Borough Office by July 30, 2008. The essay contest is open to children between the ages of 10 and 18 and must also be submitted to the Moscow Borough Office by July 30, 2008. Each essay should be between 50 and 300 words. All entries for both contests must include the following information on the BACK of the submission: name, address, phone number, and age of participant. We would ask that you encourage your children to participate in both of these activities. Prizes will be awarded for both contests on the evening of National Night Out. Links: |
